Quote of the week from the Sunday sermon

This week, the quote that stuck with me was one from President Harry S Truman. Here it is-

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I can’t believe that I have been alive for 38 years and have never heard that before.  It is so easy to give in to the evil one and grumble because someone else full credit for something you might have helped with or maybe even did.  I can recall several times when I was in the USAF that I had done something but my supervisor ended up with the credit.  It really used to chap me off but looking back on it, if my attitude were a bit different, how much more could I have accomplished?  It applies across all areas of your life. Work, home, family, neighborhood, church.  I guess the key is to look at what needs to be done and see the goal and seek what God would have you do!!

I disagree with the quote. I would have to alter it as such:

“It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care if YOU get the credit.”

As Christians, we’re definitely called to care about who gets the credit of our accomplishments: God. Every good thing comes from God and we’re to acknowledge that every good thing comes from Him.

This comment is slightly semantic but I think it’s an important distinction. 🙂 God bless.

It is a direct quote from President Truman. I doubt that he was speaking of spiritual matters at the time. I can see your version but I don’t believe he was going for that context there.
